A Slight Departure for New Year's Eve

Tonight I wanted to share with you a video I watched on the internet, courtesy of a friend and former colleague of mine called Michael Albert. It's called "Departure Lounge" and is about two deaf men who become friends. One is older, in hospital, and dealing with his own impending death. The other is younger, irresponsible, and dealing with being a father and good partner. The film is about half an hour long and is just beautiful.

I also wanted to wish everyone (in ASL and BSL) a happy new year! I'm not going out or anything, this old lady is staying home! But whatever your plans, be safe and have a very Happy New Year!!

Addendum with some BAD BSL thrown in...

Right. I think I've figured this webcam thing out, though it's still a bit blurry I think. Anyway, I was sitting here reviewing my first video, you know, the one where I wished everyone a Merry Christmas, etc etc, and I started thinking about how I'm really a member of two...no three cultures now. American and Hearing, the one I was born in; American Deaf Community, where my heart lives; and now I'm becoming involved in the British Deaf Community. I thought I'd re-do my message. I only have really met one deaf person here in the UK, her name is Susie and she was my teacher in my BSL class that was sadly canceled. She was a wonderful teacher and was so very patient with me. So for her...and any other deaf folks from her that might see this, Happy Christmas and Happy New Year!

Happy Holidays, y'all!!!

Hey y'all. I know it's been a long time since I've done anything with this blog, but I wanted to just take a sec and wish all my Deaf/HOH/Terp friends waaaaay back home in the States a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I also wanted to tell you that I miss all of you so very much. I miss sitting around chatting, hearing your stories and just sharing with you all. Hopefully I will be back in the US soon for a visit and can see y'all. For now, though, I'm keeping this short because it's started snowing again outside and I want to go have a peek. So love love love all of you, hope you have great holidays, and bye for now.

Welcome!

Welcome to my new v-log, NERDA's World. The name NERDA is an abbreviation for Not Even Related to a Deaf Adult, a take off on CODA which is a designation that stands for Child Of Deaf Adult. I am a NERDA, I'm not related to any deaf people at all.

This v-log is meant to be a companion to my regular blog, Isn't the Lettuce Brave, but in ASL. I'm doing this not only to create access to my boring blog, but to keep practicing my ASL as I move to the UK where it isn't used by the Deaf Community.

(The videos here will not be captioned or have voice overs, but the titles will be the same as their counterparts over at The Lettuce. I welcome comments here or there.)
